Kids Sermon – 9/1/02 – 10:30a.m.

St. Paul tells us in today’s first Bible reading that all of Jesus’ followers today have many different things that they like to do and are good at and that together we are a very special team which can function like one body.  Everyone can be part of Jesus’ team!  Let's show the grown-ups how this can work.

Very soon, school will be opening, and next Sunday, Sunday school will be starting!  Both in your regular schools and in Sunday school, there are bound to be new kids.  One important ministry is welcoming new kids.  Who here likes to meet new friends and welcome them?  We need ____ welcomers.  Great!  Standup, welcomers!  Regular school and Sunday school need students who are really excited about learning new things and can help get the other kids excited.  Who really likes to learn new things?  O.K., learners, stand up!  Some kids also are good at showing other kids how to do things.  Who likes teaching?  Great, stand up!  Every school needs peacemakers, kids who help out when there are arguments.  Who would like to be a peacemaker?  Stand up!  The world needs kids who will pray for other kids (and grown-ups).  Stand up, people of prayer!  And every place needs helpers, who help in all kinds of different ways.  Everyone else, stand up!  Now, lets all join hands so that the welcomers, learners, teachers, peacemakers, prayers, and helpers are all supporting each other – see how strong we are together!

This is what it is to be a part of Jesus’ team, in which everyone gets an important job, and we all strengthen each other in what we all do!
