Most spiritual growth activities at St. Barnabas are open to both men and women at this time.  

Please contact one of the below if you are interested in spiritual growth activities designed especially for men.  See below for activities we have done in the past.

Summary of 2007 activities:

5 men and 3 women met on Tuesday, April 10 to view and discuss a pre-recorded lecture by Dr. Barbara Rossing entitled "Prophecy, End-times, and American Apocalypse: Reclaiming Hope for Our World".

4 men and 3 women met on Tuesday, March 13 for a discussion facilitated by Father Bill on the Old Testament prophet Micah in the Bolmer Room from 7:30 pm - 8:45 pm.

About 10 men and women met on Saturday, February 24 for an all-day retreat on "Social Justice" led by Evan Schneider.

The group met Tuesday, January 9 to discuss the Book of Amos.  Father Bill facilitated the discussion attended by both men and women.

Summary of 2006 activities:

The group met Tuesday, November 14 to discuss the Book of Jonah.

The group met the third Tuesday of the month during January - April to discuss the Book "The Wisdom Way of Knowing" by Cynthia Bourgeault.  Father Bill led the discussions and we are grateful for the knowledge and insight he shared.

Summary of 2005 activities:

On November 12, 5 men enjoyed breakfast followed by a discussion led by Father Bill Breedlove on "Proverbs and Meditation", in which Proverbs and the wisdom tradition was used as the starting point for meditation followed by silence and reflection.  It was a spiritually deepening experience for all.

7 men met on January 26, 2005 to discuss the topic of "Faith at Work".

Summary of 2004 activities:

10 men got together on Wednesday, October 13 in the Bolmer Room to hear Father Hubbard offer biblical perspectives on fear and then listened intently as Steve Skinner shared his recent experiences in dealing with fear during two tours of duty as a civilian contractor in Iraq.  

4 men participated in a follow-up discussion on "fear" led by Father Hubbard on Wednesday, November 10 in the Bolmer Room.

On March 15, 5 men enjoyed pizza and video and participated in a discussion with Fr. Bill Breedlove on how to be more spiritually focused.

On February 11, 5 men enjoyed pizza and participated in a discussion with Fr. Bill Breedlove on "The Apostles".

On January 14, 7 men enjoyed pizza and participated in a discussion with Fr. Bill Breedlove on "The Apostles".

Summary of 2003 activities:

On December 10, 8 men enjoyed pizza and participated in a discussion with Fr. Bill Breedlove on "The Apostles".

On November 12, 7 men enjoyed pizza and participated in a discussion with Dr. Jacqueline Lapsley of Princeton Theological Seminary entitled "War & Peace in the Old Testament". 

On February 26, 12 men enjoyed pizza and participated in a discussion with Rev. Peter Stimpson of Trinity Counseling Service on Reconciliation & Forgiveness.

On January 29, 3 men continued the discussion began on November 20, 2002 on Baptismal vows and what they mean to us today.

On April 2, the discussion topic was Good and Evil.

At the May 7 Men's Spiritual Growth meeting, the Rev. John A. Mills, pastor of First Congregational Church, Closter, NJ, led a very enlightening discussion on "Genesis, Creationism, and Evolution"See Rev. Mills' website (http://wislit.home.att.net) if you are interested in learning more about Science and Religion.

8 men enjoyed an inspiring evening retreat on June 4 led by Father Hubbard on the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

3 men shared their experiences following the death of loved ones on October 23.

5 men met on November 20 to discuss Baptismal vows.  The discussion was led by Father Hubbard.  Another discussion on other aspects of this topic will occur sometime in January.
